How jewellery is valued differently from bullion
Bullion is simple: a coin or bar is almost all gold, so weight and purity are nearly the same thing. Jewellery is a composite. A single necklace can hold gold, solder, lac filling, silk thread, stones and a base-metal clasp, and only the gold is worth the gold rate.
That is why the first stage of a jewellery valuation is separation, not weighing. Once non-gold material is removed, net weight is established, XRF confirms purity, and the live rate turns those numbers into rupees. Skipping separation is how vague 'per piece' offers hide value.

How to get the most for your jewellery
Preparation costs nothing and usually improves your outcome. Knowing roughly what you have removes the information gap that weak offers rely on.
- Weigh everything at home on a kitchen scale for a rough gross figure
- Note any karat or hallmark stamps you can find
- Check the live 24K rate on the day you plan to sell
- Insist on XRF testing in front of you, not touchstone and acid
- Ask for weight, purity and rate as separate lines, never one lump sum
- Sell as scrap gold on weight rather than accepting a fixed exchange value
Selling inherited or sentimental jewellery
Inherited gold often carries decades of family history, and it is normal to want to sell part of a set and keep the rest. There is no obligation to sell everything you bring — each item is valued individually so you can decide piece by piece.
Since testing is non-destructive, you can also have everything valued and take it all home again. Many customers use a CMG valuation simply to understand what a family collection is worth before making any decision.
