How silver valuation actually works at CMG
Silver pricing is more nuanced than gold pricing because silver appears in widely varying purities. Most jewellery silver is around 92.5% (sterling). Investment bars and coins are typically 99.9%. Utensils can range from 70% to 92.5% depending on how they were manufactured. Without scientific testing, a buyer who assumes the lowest purity protects their margin at your expense.
Our process is the opposite. Every item is cleaned, weighed on certified scales, then tested with XRF. The actual purity percentage is displayed on the XRF screen — you see it as we see it. Your payout is calculated as: net weight × purity percentage × live 24K-equivalent silver rate. Nothing more, nothing less.
Because we are direct buyers and refiners, we do not apply downstream resale discounts. The rate we quote is close to the wholesale bullion rate, not the heavily discounted ‘second-hand’ rate that traditional jewellers offer for the same metal.

Documents, KYC and large-value transactions
Every silver transaction at CMG is fully KYC-compliant. Bring a valid government photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Voter ID or Driving License. For sales above ₹2 lakh, PAN is mandatory and the balance above the cash limit is paid via bank transfer as per RBI rules. Below ₹2 lakh, you can choose 100% cash if that suits you.
For very large transactions — say 25 kilograms or more — we recommend a quick prior call so we can prepare adequate cash float and arrange secure transport for the silver. Most large transactions are completed within 90 minutes once our valuer arrives.
