Gold Valuation

Free gold valuation — every number explained

A valuation should be arithmetic, not a verdict. CMG weighs your gold on certified scales, XRF tests it in front of you, applies the live 24K rate and shows the calculation line by line — free, with no obligation to sell.

  • Free valuation with no obligation
  • Certified scales accurate to 0.01 g
  • XRF purity reading shown on screen
  • Live 24K-linked rate confirmed at the counter
  • Written breakdown of weight, purity and rate
  • Available in branch or at your doorstep

How gold value is calculated

Three numbers decide the answer: net gold weight, tested purity and the live 24K rate. The formula is net weight × purity ÷ 24 × rate per gram. Nothing else should change the figure unless it is named and explained to you first.

Take a 32-gram necklace. Stones, thread and a non-gold clasp account for 3 grams, so net gold weight is 29 grams. XRF reads 22K, or 91.6%. At a live 24K rate of ₹15,000 per gram, the value is 29 × 0.916 × 15,000 = ₹3,98,460. On a CMG bill each of those inputs appears on its own line.

Net weight: what gets excluded and why

Gross weight is what the scale reads with everything attached. Net weight is the gold alone. Excluding non-gold material protects you as much as us: if stones were included, you would be paid the gold rate for glass and lac, which distorts comparisons between buyers.

  • Stones, kundan, meena and enamel work — removed and weighed separately
  • Lac or resin filling inside bangles and hollow pieces
  • Thread, silk cords and beads in mangalsutra and rakhi-style pieces
  • Steel springs, base-metal clasps and screw posts
  • Rhodium or colour plating, which XRF identifies but does not add value

Why the live rate matters more than a quoted 'best price'

The gold price per gram moves through the trading day with international bullion prices, the rupee-dollar rate and import duty. A buyer who quotes a single flat rate all week is either padding a margin against price movement or exposing themselves to loss — and the first is far more common.

CMG works off the live rate, refreshed through the day, and confirms the applicable figure at the moment of sale. The homepage rate ticker gives you a reference before you visit, so you can walk in already knowing roughly what to expect.

Retail price vs resale value

The single biggest surprise in gold selling is the gap between the price on an old bill and the resale value today. That gap is not a deduction — it is the part of the retail price that was never metal in the first place: making charges, wastage percentage, GST and shop margin.

Resale is metal-only. Judge any offer against the live bullion rate for your karat and weight, not against your purchase invoice, and the comparison becomes straightforward.
